The upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), developed by the Adani Group, is set to revolutionize connectivity in Maharashtra, significantly enhancing economic, industrial, and tourism prospects for Pune and neighboring Tier 3 cities like Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Solapur, and Shirdi.

According to recent reports, NMIA will commence operations with IndiGo as the inaugural airline, launching 18 daily departures connecting over 15 cities, and plans to expand rapidly to 79 daily departures—including 14 international flights—by November 2025. By November 2026, IndiGo aims to operate 140 daily departures, 30 of which will be international, positioning NMIA as a major domestic and international transfer hub.

The airport’s first phase will have the capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually, with future expansions targeting up to 90 million passengers per year. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including two parallel runways and a 3,700-metre runway capable of accommodating large aircraft, NMIA is designed to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport and elevate passenger experience. Additionally, Akasa Air has announced plans to start operations from NMIA, further enhancing regional connectivity.
